A single 24V lithium battery replaces two 12V batteries and their series jumper, and usually saves 75 lb or more over a pair of AGMs. For most 24V motors, a 24V 100Ah lithium with a 100A BMS is the right buy, at about 44 lb and $480–$690. Smaller 50–60Ah batteries suit lighter boats and shorter trips.

Match the BMS to your motor
A lithium battery shuts off if your motor pulls more current than its BMS allows. Check your motor's max draw:
- Minn Kota PowerDrive 70: 42 A max, so any battery here works.
- Minn Kota Terrova 80: 56 A max, so choose 60A or higher (the LiTime 60Ah or any 100Ah).
- Minn Kota QUEST motors wired for 24V: 60 A max, so choose 100A batteries for headroom.
The 50A batteries (Ionic 50Ah, RELiON RB24V52, LiTime 50Ah) suit motors that draw under about 45 A at full throttle.
How long each size runs a 24V motor
| Battery | PowerDrive 70, 50% speed | Terrova 80, 50% speed | Terrova 80, 30% speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50Ah lithium | ~2.8 hr | ~2.0 hr | ~4.6 hr |
| 60Ah lithium | ~3.3 hr | ~2.5 hr | ~5.5 hr |
| 100Ah lithium | ~5.7 hr | ~4.2 hr | ~9.4 hr |
| 2 × 75Ah AGM | ~1.7 hr | ~1.2 hr | — |
Best overall value: LiTime 24V 100Ah Group 31 TM Smart
This is the easiest upgrade from two 12V batteries: it drops into a Group 31 tray, weighs 44.1 lb, and has a 100A BMS with a 500A one-second surge, Bluetooth and IP65. Charging stops below 32°F and resumes at 41°F. Redodo sells a near-identical battery (same size, weight and ratings) for slightly less, so buy whichever is cheaper that week.

Best price for 100Ah: Vatrer 24V 100Ah Bluetooth
Vatrer offers the same 100Ah and 100A BMS with Bluetooth and IP65 for around $475. The catch is its long, flat case, 20.6 × 9.4 inches, so measure your battery compartment first. Check Vatrer's warranty policy before buying.
Best compact: LiTime 24V 60Ah Group 24 TM
At 26.9 lb in a Group 24 case, this is the pick for smaller boats or tight compartments. Its 60A BMS covers a Terrova 80 at full throttle, just barely. LiTime listed it as pre-order when we checked.
Best warranty: Ionic 24V 50Ah
Ionic backs this battery for 11 years and includes its Bluetooth app. With 50Ah and a 50A BMS, it's best matched to lighter motors like the PowerDrive 70, or as a reliable smaller battery for anglers who fish shorter days.
Best premium for cold climates: RELiON RB24V52
RELiON's 24V battery is IP67 sealed and keeps charging below freezing at reduced current (5A from 14–32°F, 2.5A down to -4°F) instead of shutting off. It carries a 10-year warranty. The 50A BMS limits it to smaller motors, and at around $930 it's the priciest 50Ah option here.
Also worth knowing
- Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah: 24.9 lb, 80A BMS and an 11-year warranty, but it was out of stock at Dakota when we checked.
- Battle Born BB5024H: a heated 24V 50Ah battery with a 10-year warranty. Battle Born doesn't list its continuous current rating on the product page, so confirm it covers your motor.
FAQ
Is one 24V battery better than two 12V batteries?
For most boats, yes. One battery is lighter, takes less space, and removes the series jumper and the risk of mismatched batteries. Two 12V batteries make sense if you need to split weight across the hull.
Can I use a 24V battery to run electronics?
Not directly. Fish finders run on 12V, so keep a separate 12V battery or use a 24V-to-12V converter.
